The ArtsNSW funded project provided community cultural development workshops exclusively for Aboriginal children and young adults aged 6 - 25 years in the Macarthur Region and promoted capacity building and cultural awareness in the Indigenous as well as the general community.

The workshops delivered creative training in dance, music and language, both written and spoken. These were facilitated and conducted by Aboriginal tutors - Matthew Doyle and Fran Bodkin, as well as Camden High School's indigenous students' teacher - and Olev Muska and Angela Pasqua at Camden Council's Camden Creative Studios. The workshops occurred between July and December 2009, with a performance on December 9 at Council's newly emerging ArtyCaf arts café. A DVD of the project was compiled, portraying the process and work produced.

MAIN ACTIVITIES

Sound
Exploring sounds in the natural environment as reproduced through the voice and traditional instruments, which were then recorded and processed for use as the DVD soundtrack as well as an audio backdrop for further live interaction with effects.

Words
Becoming familiar with local Aboriginal languages and stories as well as establishing the participants' indigenous backgrounds, then learning a traditional song.

Dance
Through movement and spatial awareness, developing a sense of body gesture which was then utilised to prepare a dance. Based on the various sound, word and dance explorations, images were created as source material for animated and projected live visuals.
